I enjoy working with clay--the earth--and the freedom it allows. As a potter who creates functional stoneware, I am drawn to carving, altering, and glaze decoration. I work quickly--preferring simple tool and techniques.
My work is called Earth as a Second Language.
Functional pottery reflects the earth's patterns: carved fields, water pathways, textured terrains, windy landscapes.
Sculptural teapots communicate attitudes-often humorous, the human condition, and our impact on the earth.
The Earth Speaks is inspired by the rugged rocks, colors, and history of the southwestern United States. The work takes several directions, held together by its allegiance to the earth: its beauty, challenges, and messages.
